Feuerstein Tactile Instrumental Enrichment Program


Individuals who are labeled or diagnosed with Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD/ADHD) tend to be highly imaginative and creative thinkers. However, they often struggle with translating overwhelming thoughts to practical actions in meeting deadlines or goals in learning and work.

They will find these two leading-edge programs fascinating. The Davis® Mastery for Attention uses a visual approach while the Feuerstein Tactile Instrumental Enrichment Program uses a tactile/kinesthetic approach. Both programs are drug-free solutions.

Davis® Mastery for Attention

The Davis® Mastery for Attention was created by Ronald D. Davis, who designed mental tools that gives individuals conscious control of their attention and energy level without reliance on drugs.


Who would benefit?

Any child aged above eight years and adults of any age, who are labeled/diagnosed with Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder ADD/ADHD or have difficulties maintaining good focus are eligible for the program.

How does it work?

Prior to the Program

Perceptual Ability Assessment would be arranged prior to the program. It aims to explore the challenges, learning styles, perceptual abilities as well as family support. The consultation takes around 1.5 hours.

The Davis Mastery for Attention is a three-step program. It is delivered on a one-to-one basis, usually arranged as a 30 to 48-hour intensive.

Step 1

Davis® Focusing Tools

Assisting the individual to develop accurate perception, and establish the ability to regulate their focus, stress and energy levels. This step is particularly important to build up and maintain attention at all times with ease.

Step 2

Davis® Concept Mastery

Facilitating the individual to truly master the concepts that will help them to understand relations between events, manage time, organize self and build good social relationships. The concepts include: self, change, consequence, cause, effect, before, after, time, sequence, and order vs. disorder.

Step 3

Application

Conducting application exercises so the individual will learn how to determine order and how to create order in one’s own space. Personalizing concepts and creating new orders of behavior towards desired changes and to remove unwanted consequences.

Home Practice and Follow-up Consultations

After the intensive, it is necessary to consolidate learnt tools and concepts and actively apply them to everyday life. A maximum of three post-program consultations will be arranged to monitor progress and adjust strategies.

Feuerstein Tactile Instrumental Enrichment Program

The Feuerstein Tactile Instrumental Enrichment Program (Tactile IE) was conceived by Prof. Reuven Feuerstein and subsequently developed by Prof. Roman Gouzman. Tactile IE is a learning intervention that uses touch and movement in order to enable individuals with ADD/ADHD who suffer from an overload of information to train their brains to explore, structure and process information.

In particular, those who are often distracted by visual stimuli will be good candidates for the program.

How does it work?

About Tactile IE

Step 1

Learning Propensity Assessment Device

The Learning Propensity Assessment Device (LPAD) is the first step to Tactile IE. It consists of a series of tests used to determine how an individual learns, which methods of teaching the individual best respond to, how much learning is retained and transferred to new and challenging tasks.

As the process goes on, the assessor gains information about the individual’s needs and thinking functions. As such, the amount of time required for assessment and the number and range of instruments vary a great deal.

Step 2

Tactile IE sessions

During the IE sessions, the trained Feuerstein mediator leads learners through increasingly complex cognitive tasks and works with them on how to analyze a problem and how to solve it systematically. In Tactile IE, an individual will focus on using the hands to explore the instruments, the brain to think about strategies and the voice to express thoughts.

IE utilizes a style of teaching called mediation. In Feuerstein’s terms, mediation means to teach information to the learner in a way that is meaningful to them, so that they understand the lesson and are able to apply it in other contexts. Not only will the trainer work with individuals. Guidance to the support persons will be given to ensure that applications of thinking skills are transferred to all contexts for the individual.
