Davis® Mastery for Dyslexia

Davis® Mastery for Dyslexia

The Davis® Mastery for Dyslexia was created by Ronald D. Davis, who is severely dyslexic. Davis theorizes that dyslexic individuals are primarily picture thinkers who experience perceptual disorientations in the senses of time, vision, hearing, and/or balance and coordination. The program is facilitated in a one-to-one, fun and supportive environment to clients above 8 years of age. For younger individuals, the Davis® Foundations for Reading will be appropriate.

Who would benefit?

Any child aged above eight years and adults of any age, who experience challenges in dyslexia (reading), dyspraxia (coordination) and/or dysgraphia (handwriting) would benefit from the program. Licensed Davis Facilitators worldwide have successfully worked with many individuals from young age to over age 70.

How does it work?

Prior to the Program

Perceptual Ability Assessment would be arranged prior to the program. It aims to explore the challenges, learning styles, perceptual abilities as well as family support. The consultation takes around 1.5 hours.

The Davis® Mastery for Dyslexia is a three-step program. It is delivered on a one-to-one basis, usually arranged as a 30 to 48-hour intensive.

Step 1

Davis® Focusing Tools

Assisting the individual to develop accurate perception, and establish the ability to regulate their focus, stress and energy levels. For individuals with dyspraxia, Koosh ball exercises would be introduced to correct coordination.

Step 2

Davis® Symbol Mastery

Facilitating the individual to truly master the alphabet, punctuation marks and trigger words (words that are causing confusion). This is achieved through creating each symbol in modelling clay and then integrating into reading and writing. For individuals with dysgraphia, triggers at handwriting would be identified and removed.

Step 3

Davis® Reading Exercises

Guiding the individual to coordinate eye movements for efficient reading. Leading him/her to understand sentences. Eventually, assisting the individual to process the meaning of a paragraph or a passage.

Home Practice and Follow-up Consultations

After the intensive, it is necessary to conduct home exercises to completely resolve the triggers at reading and writing, as well as to consolidate learnt tools. A maximum of three post-program consultations would be arranged to monitor progress and adjust strategies.
